ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in Yorkshire, raised in rural horse drawn Norfolk by grandparents, and partially educated at as a boarder: buckets of ancient Greek; torrents of Latin; frequent floggings, dreadful food and rowing. Whilst taking ‘Responsions’ for Oxford I somewhat misguidedly threw up the intellectual sponge-left school- and joined the Merchant Navy (without maths; dodgy eyesight; and no pre-sea training this meant joining a ‘bottom of the ladder’ tramp ship company.) Getting out was harder than getting in. I subsequently served for 38 years mostly in worldwide command of a variety of ships.
Came ashore in 83. ’85 entered Auckland University New Zealand, read law and some Spanish literature. Admitted to the Bar in 89. Practiced as a lawyer for the next ten years.
Retired from the Law in 99 to regional Queensland to write full time. (I published my first article in1954 in the magazine Men Only and from thence wrote short stories etc for most of my life.) Since retiring I have self-published three full length novels, and am about to bring out a fourth while proof reading a fifth.
Married and happily living with the same wife I started out with we have six offspring, one daughter, five sons, all graduates, plus 8 grandchildren and all scattered around the world. A major annual exercise now involves travelling widely to visit. Other interests? Cooking, weight training, wine, genealogy, and the daily production of words.
